Ryan Deguzman’s 1993 Mazda FD RX7 is one of those cars that I never get tired of looking at. Every time I see it at a show or in his garage I always notice something new that makes me think “wow!” It demands respect of everyone in our community not simply because his mod list is a mile long (you’ll see), but because of the quality of his build and how everything fits together properly.

I met up with Ryan to shoot his FD a couple months ago after talking about shooting it for a long time. We rolled to Downtown LA and found a nice industrial area that would be a nice contrast to his clean ride. We were interrupted by a camera crew shooting a movie, which is typical in Downtown LA, but we still had just enough time for me to capture these shots of his ride before the sun went down.

Ryan has done everything right with this car and his attention to detail is simply insane! From the HKS turbo pushing 400+hp, to the meticulously put together engine bay and interior, to the custom body, paint and SSR wheels, this ride has struck the perfect balance between show and go in my opinion. Builds like these really impress us, hats off to you Ryan you’ve set the bar very high for all FDs!

Ryan would like to give props to: Falken Tires, Tanabe And Ssr Wheels, Auto Explosion Custom Body & Paint, Chuys Interior, Lot Usa, Rhdjapan and Rx7Club.com. He’d also like to give a special thanks to Randy Riggs, Nelson & Louie from RRR, John from Mazdatrix, TWCompetition, and especially his wife and sons. Also a thank you to Marcus Cooke for taking the time to shoot and write this feature.

I have a lot more respect for people who build cars to drive them rather than look cool.

Thats a common misconception people seem to have about my vehicles…..I’ve driven my FD to the bay twice last year and had to daily it for 7 months and commute on the 405 to work while building my FC. Just because I take a little bit more time in caring for my cars appearance, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a garage queen. You must not know me buddy…but your definitely not the first….lol

I can vouch that this car as well as his sick FC are driven and driven hard.
