Formula Drift 2012 Round 1: Streets of Long Beach

Formula Drift is finally back in full swing and we’re excited to bring you the coverage. There were plenty of rookies this year that competed in the qualifying but not too many made it to the final 32. Along with the high number of rookies, there were also plenty of crashes too. Nevertheless, it was action-packed and a huge adrenaline rush to watch from the sidelines. Hopefully you get the same rush with our coverage.

Arrived early in the morning to watch the drifters and their teams setup.

Drifters’ meeting.

Dai was looking energetic and ready to rock.

The Falken team always puts on a show. Unfortunately, the Saturn Sky got into a bad fight with the wall. I’m not sure whether the car will be back or not.

A D1 drift car makes an appearance at Formula D. Super sick.

Tony Angelo, once a Formula D judge, is now back in Ken Gushi’s old Scion Tc and drifting this year.

Ken Gushi’s new Greddy FR-S.

Frederic was looking good as usual.

Matt Powers finished fourth, not a bad way to start this year.

One of the most hyped rookies of this year is Daigo Saito, the Formula Drift Asia champion. He’s quick.

Ken Gushi killing it.

One of the epic battles of the day. Two Japanese guys go head to head: Dai versus Ken.

And perhaps the most epic battle of the day Dai versus Daigo, North American versus Asia champion.

Fighting for the top spot. At the end of the day, Justin took the win.

Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery for more drift coverage.
