Two years ago I was introduced to my first Formula Drift event in Atlanta. It was an absolute blast and every year since, I’ve always been stoked to go back. This year was no exception.

In the last few years there has been an emphasis across all of the car scenes to “keep it clean,” which has manifested itself in the form of an OEM+ style of modification. Personally it’s a style I appreciate and attempt to emulate in my own vehicles because it’s how many think the vehicles should have looked from the factory. It’s amazing what a drop, wheels, badge-less grill, some OE Euro or JDM parts, a little bit of body work/shaving, and an interior swap will do for a vehicle. Sure there is a place for lip kits, over fenders, wings and custom fabrication, but something about an OEM+ modified car seems so… pure.
The VIP movement isn’t something new to us anymore; they’ve definitely solidified their seats within our culture. With that comes the non-stop deliverance of top-tier style, execution, luxury, and groundbreaking modifications that many have turned out to be quite the sucker for, us included.
Another Winter 2014 week is in the books and I am back at it again with another version of Web Picks (#2). My primary goal with these segments is to give you guys a good variety in photo style and cars. Just like last week here are my favorite photos from around Flickr and the Internet.
I personally invite any of these talented photographers below to reach out to me and lets work together on some features! Keep up the good work everyone and as always just a friendly reminder to add your work to the Canibeat Flickr Pool. I am toying around with the idea of maybe opening this segment up to guests. If this interests you feel free to reach out as well.

When it comes to cars it always hits home when someone gives it their all in a build. Whether they live next door, across the coast, or in this case across the globe in Indonesia, every person that allocates their time in order to put together a show-stopping whip deserves a round of applause. Many of us have been in our garages with busted knuckles and greasy wrenches, but not blowing the doors off of the scene we were attempting to when it came to our vehicles.
About a year ago I met David and Yogi at the StanceWars car show in Bellevue, WA. After including their Benz in my StanceWars 2012 video, they came to me asking to feature their car in a video to show friends and sponsors. Later that year we met up in a warehouse a friend of mine owns and began shooting with the available light. For months the content sat unedited until I finally sat down and figured it had been long enough. I’m glad to show off David and Yogi’s sweet ride, and hope to be doing more features in the future!

A year went by as the east coast prepared for an event that would change the course of our automotive culture and history. The tri-state generation had yet to prove and showcase their knowledge, hard work, and their way of life. When the announcement was made that Weksos USA was hosting a show right in the center of the North East people flooded with excitement and anticipation, eager to finally climb up as underdogs to the west, and come up as kings of the east.

With the growing popularity of the VIP style scene in North America every enthusiast seems to try to push the envelope with more force than the next guy when it comes to modifying their car. What once started as simply working with a big body sedan with wheels and a drop to emulate the Yakuza mobsters’ ride of choice has now turned into an ever growing and ever changing canvas to work from with endless possibilities. Raymund Young at Royal Flush sculpted his masterpiece with detail that would make Picasso proud.
