We went back to Formula Drift Round 4 at Wall Speedway for the second time… my have things changed. More horsepower, fiercer competition, and plenty of upsets and surprises. All around good time. This time we were filming solo, but since we’d been before we had an idea of how things would unfold.
Back in June I was invited to hangout in Baltimore for the weekend to shoot Jose Chong and several of his friend’s cars. The weekend began with washing the cars in the Baltimore suburbs, followed by a trip to West Virginia for a photo shoot with More Than More photographer Anna Taylor. Anna has had her eye on this industrial factory spot for a while and it ended up being the perfect location.
Many of you may have seen Jose’s wagon before. In the last two years it has undergone countless changes, most currently the red wrap and prima donna RS’s. Jose’s other build, his MKI cabrio, boasts flawless original paint and drives as smooth as ever (I would know, most of the rollers are from the Cabby). Several of Jose’s local friends joined in, including Matt Wiese with his beautiful Passat and Erik Holloway with his MKIV R32 on those awesome Hartmann Twists. A warm 80 degrees and an offshore breeze is a great combination for a car show. Wekfest LA kicks off the year with yet again another awesome show at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, with Canibeat posted up right in the middle of all the madness. This year the theme was RED. Red ruckus, Red DC2 (Integra) and a Red FRS 86. With the Long Beach skyline in the background you couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop. This year we tried to enjoy the show a little more so we talked and met with a lot more people. Surprisingly this year Wekfest LA gave us all a little bit more room to breathe. Giving us quality over quantity, you were able to walk around more and set up your shot for the perfect Instagram post.
On May 31, Formula Drift returned to Florida for Round 3: Miami Heat. This was Formula Drift’s third visit to Florida, but this time in a new location. In 2012 and 2013, Palm Beach International Raceway hosted the series, but 2014 brought Round 3 to Homestead-Miami Speedway. This facility hosts NASCAR, IndyCar, Grand Am, and now the Formula Drift Series in an expansive multi-track venue. The event utilized the infield road course starting at turn 2 and completing each run at turn 5. Vaughn Gittin Jr. earned victory over Chris Forsberg in the final round. This was Gittin’s second win in a row after taking home the victory at Round 2: Road Atlanta. Finishing third behind Gittin and Forsberg was Kenny Moen. This event was a fresh breath for the increasingly large amount of fans and a new challenge for the lineup of drivers. While learning the new track, teams and drivers practiced and adapted to the unfamiliar setup. The Saturday competition was strong and the energy was high. Florida’s heat persisted all day, but the threat of rain held off and the skies remained clear and the track stayed dry. Please enjoy our video coverage from Round 3: Miami Heat.

Ultimate Dubs: one of the biggest VAG shows in the UK. Crazy clean builds all across Europe come to put themselves under the spot light. About a year ago I met David and Yogi at the StanceWars car show in Bellevue, WA. After including their Benz in my StanceWars 2012 video, they came to me asking to feature their car in a video to show friends and sponsors. Later that year we met up in a warehouse a friend of mine owns and began shooting with the available light. For months the content sat unedited until I finally sat down and figured it had been long enough. I’m glad to show off David and Yogi’s sweet ride, and hope to be doing more features in the future!
Honda’s these days are a dime a dozen. Yet the differences, and availabilities (or lack thereof) in the States, has left many owners with a few options; if a certain model wasn’t offered in the country, they could either import one, or transform an existing trim level and bring it up to the desired specs. In Teddy’s case, the latter was chosen. With a passion for Honda and their vast array of interchangeable parts, it wasn’t long before Teddy’s Civic began to take shape. With it’s fair share of rare parts and a 1.8L pushing just over 220whp, Teddy explains to us that at this phase in the car’s build, he couldn’t be any happier.
The BMW 2002 is elementary yet stunning, a design that breathed life back into the struggling Bavarian Automaker which eventually led to ever-popular 3 Series. It’s a chassis that has also granted freedom to the car enthusiast that have owned them for over four decades. Concourse, Motorsports and even the Stance communities have become fond of this surprisingly nimble and stimulating chassis when choosing a project for their next build no matter its eventual purpose.
I finally had a chance to make it out to Canibeat’s First Class Fitment hosted at Princeton Airport in NJ and I must say I was completely blown away by the superior level of cars that attended. The show hosted some mint condition nostalgic JDM and Euro cars achieving very proper stance, as well as some freshly modified cars laying frame while obtaining immaculate pain jobs paired with very aggressive fitments. All and all the show brought together a great vibe that kept spectators enthused for hours on end. I had an amazing time with the CIB crew and cant wait for 2014! Hope you guys enjoy.
