Double Header: Super Street Fresh Tokyo Meet / Tokyo Auto Salon 2015

TAS

Last month, on the other side of our precious globe, the annual Tokyo Auto Salon hit the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City’s Mihama-ku ward. As can be expected from one of the top auto shows for modified and tuned vehicles, based in the tuner capital of the world that hosts roots back to the latter part of the ’80s, advocates of each and every sector of Japan’s automotive culture were present in full suit. The show as a whole has continued to gain momentum in regards to popularity as the years continue to commence, making the Tokyo Auto Salon the place to be in January when feasible. Luckily for us, we had eyes not only on the show, but at Super Street’s Fresh Tokyo Meet that give perspective of what goes within the shadows, outside of the spotlights.

Breaking The Mold: Tyler’s Exquisite Subaru Wagon

subby-cover

There is an ever-evolving stigma in the automotive community that all vehicles should add form to a certain standard. A check list of acceptable modification so to speak. For ages now, a battle has raged between those who prefer form over function and vice-verse. However, there are a defiant few who stand against the typical norm; those who stand to do things their own way without a care in the world regarding the judgement or admiration of others. Tyler happens to be one of those select individuals.

WEKFEST MIA 2014 (Miami Beach, FL): Official Coverage

wekfest

In 2011 Weakest made the decision to launch the Wekfest USA tour. 2014 marked the first time the tour made its way to the sunshine state, Miami specifically. Usually Canibeat vends at both the California and New Jersey shows, but because Miami’s event was so close to the holidays I decided to just personally go down there to check it out. I made the trip to Orlando where I met up with JDM KAM, Nick from Simplyclean, and a few friends and we made the four hour drive from there. The one thing I have noticed about Weakest is no matter where they go, whether it’s a small scene or a big scene, quality cars always come out.

I was in Orlando for Simply Clean exactly a month prior and it was good to be back. A little sunshine and being away from the cold up North is always a blessing. We hope you enjoy our coverage and if you couldn’t make it out this year hopefully our coverages makes you want to in 2015!

The One: Matt Conway’s Volkswagen R32

r32-cover

We all have that one thing in life that we need. It can be in many different areas; the right person, the right shoes, the right food, and for the insane car enthusiast in all of us, the right vehicle. For Matt Conaway, having owned Volkswagens and Audis his whole driving experience he knew one vehicle was right for him, and that was Volkswagen’s pinnacle of the Golf/GTI world–the R32. No other car from Volkswagen captured the true passion of a car owner like their all-wheel drive, VR6 hot hatch. Matt knew he had to have one, and when he finally purchased the one you see below, he knew it was the one for him.

An Evolved Sense of Style: Bassem Elashrafi’s BMW 335xi

bassem-cover

Bassem’s love affair started like it does for many of us… as he himself describes, “It’s often an infatuation with one particular car that pushes us towards a lifelong love of most things automotive. It could be a car that you spent time around growing up, the first or fourth car of your own, or perhaps even a car you saw only in magazines or on T.V.” Whatever it may be that sparks that fire in us, it becomes something that we can never escape. When Bassem was younger, he says that he used to enjoy drawing cars he’d see on T.V. At the age of 18 he finally saved enough to afford a car of his own, albeit it wasn’t the gorgeous 3-series that graces your screen this moment, the 2007 Nissan Maxima he did purchase was the start of something much bigger than he had realized. After his 21st birthday he grew increasingly tired with the mundaneness he found in the Maxima when, by chance, he happened to stumble across a bimmer forum online. From there on out it was love at first sight.

Forging Performance with Retro JDM: Eddie’s 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata

mx5_cover

“The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I’m giving it five stars is because I can’t give it fourteen” – Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear BBC

Take that perspective, from one of the world’s most renowned automotive journalist, and forge that with Eddie’s passion for the “retro JDM” style and you’re in for what you see here–a car that is the pinnacle of performance, married to custom retro aesthetics. Like many stories of enthusiasts just looking to purchase a daily driver to save on gas, this turned out to be more than what Eddie had originally bargained for.

Bagged and Boosted: Fred’s Scion TC

scion_cover

Fred’s TC caught my eye the moment I saw it rolling into Offset Kings Irwindale earlier this year as his 2009 Scion TC followed me while I sat on the back of a golf cart. I immediately fell in love with the way it was rolling and couldn’t wait to get up close and personal with it. I found a spare moment to chat with Fred before he rolled into the parking area and it became quite evident that there was so much more to this build than just fitment. He explained from an early age he grew up watching his brother modify his car and he could immediately see that there was so much more behind the build other than parts. The car was an extension of him, his personality and soul, and Fred couldn’t wait to embark on this journey. Once he got his first car, he followed in his brother’s footsteps.

First Class Fitment 2014: Official Coverage (Part One)

First_Class_Fitment_2014_COVER

All year, every year, we work our asses off to keep Canibeat alive and thriving. This is more than just a website; it’s our passion. Our staff of photographers and writers spend countless hours scouring the country for feature vehicles and show coverage while Roy & Cristian spend many late nights delivering merchandise, posts, and coverage to you, our faithful fans.

All of this hard work culminates in one final event each year in October. This isn’t just any event. To most, it may seem like another show or a mark on the calendar for the last day to have your show wheels on before going into “winter mode” but to us, it’s so much more. It’s our Homecoming. Our celebration. Our baby. Our heaving sigh of relief. Our toast to another successful year.
